Big Cedar Mountain and Preacher's Rock via Appalachian Trail

A 5-mile out-and-back on the Appalachian Trail from the Woody Gap trailhead, climbing to the rocky summit of Big Cedar Mountain and the legendary Preacher's Rock overlook. The views over the Yahoola Valley are incredible, and the rock outcrop is only a short walk off the AT. Moderate climbing, maximum scenery.

• Difficulty: Moderate · 1,056 ft elevation gain · about 2.5–3 hours
• What hikers say: stunning views and well-maintained trail; the steep climbs (especially the push up to Granny Top) are the main challenge.
• Good to know: Reviewers recommend an early start, hydration, and sturdy footwear.
