Currahee Mountain
Sunday, November 2, 2025 • Toccoa, GA, Georgia
Currahee is the mountain the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment made famous — "three miles up, three miles down" from Camp Toccoa, immortalized in Band of Brothers. At 1,735 feet it is the highest peak in Stephens County, and Currahee Mountain Road makes it a short but honest climb with a long view from the top.
The route is straightforward: about 3 miles up (roughly 800 ft of gain) on a steady, unshaded grade with no technical sections, then 3 miles back down. It is rated easy in difficulty — but the climb is constant, so pace yourself and bring plenty of water.

What to Bring
This isn't a casual walk. Come prepared:
- Footwear — Hiking boots or trail running shoes. No regular sneakers.
- Water — At minimum 2 liters per person. More if it's hot.
- Snacks — Bring something for the trail and summit. You'll earn it.
- Pack — You should not be hiking with items in your hands. Bring a bag to carry everything.
- Rain jacket — We're in the mountains. Weather changes fast. Umbrellas are fine but may snag on branches.
- Extra socks — Always. Your feet will thank you.
- Compass — If you attended the NAV class, bring yours.
- Bear spray — Currahee is bear country. Bring it if you have it.
- Fully charged phone — Before you leave home.
Tell someone where you're going. Let your family or a friend know your destination and estimated return time.
If you have any health concerns, find one of the team leaders before we start. No one gets left behind — but we need to know what we're working with.
