Get to Know Dakota

If you've been to the navigation course, you've already spent a few hours in the woods with me. For everyone else — I'm Dakota, and outdoor education has been my life's work for a long time now.

Growing Up Outdoors
The outdoors has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started hunting and fishing with my father at five years old, and that early introduction grew into a lifelong passion for wilderness, outdoor education, and traditional skills.
Over the years I've hunted and fished across multiple states, experiencing a wide range of landscapes, environments, and outdoor traditions. My background goes beyond recreation — it includes cowboy work, firefighting, wilderness travel, and hands-on outdoor education.
What I Do Today
Today I work as an outdoor skills instructor, wilderness skills trainer, hiker, canoe educator, hunter, and fisherman. I've taught outdoor and wilderness skills classes across the United States, sharing practical knowledge and helping people build real confidence in the outdoors.
Through my outfitting business, Dakota of The Woods, I offer wilderness skills classes, guided canoe tours, private instruction, and personalized outdoor training. The goal is simple: help people develop practical skills, confidence, and a deeper connection with the natural world — whether they're brand new to the outdoors or looking to sharpen what they already know. Learning should be hands-on, approachable, and grounded in real-world experience.
I also document adventures, skills, and the outdoor lifestyle on my YouTube channel, @offthecouch1999.
Why I Teach
This work is more than a business — it's a labor of love. The outdoors has given me a lifetime of experiences, lessons, and opportunities, and I'm passionate about passing that knowledge on to others. That's exactly what brought me out to teach the land navigation course with Muslim Adventures, and I'm looking forward to more time in the field with this group.
